PEPU HERNÁNDEZ, PAU GASOL AND RAFAEL VECINA TO MEET THE PUBLIC AT OVIEDO´S AUDITORIO PRÍNCIPE FELIPE

Pepu Hernández, Pau Gasol and Rafa Vecina, all members of the Spanish national basketball team, the 2006 Prince of Asturias Award Laureate for Sports, are to meet with the public next Saturday, 21st October at 11.30 am at Oviedo´s Auditorio Príncipe de Asturias. The event has been organized by the Prince of Asturias Foundation in collaboration with the Principality of Asturias Department of Sports, the Oviedo City Council and the Principality of Asturias Basketball Federation.
Three videos with highlights of the team honoured with the 2006 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports will be shown during the meeting.
The meeting, one of the many events organised by the Aula Príncipe, marks another step by the Foundation in its effort to bring the Prince of Asturias Awards Laureates closer to Asturian society. For this reason, free tickets will be made available to the public. They can be collected starting on Thursday, 19th October, from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, at the Auditorio Príncipe de Asturias box office and on Friday, 20th October, from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm and from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm (only two tickets per person). The Foundation would like as many people as possible to participate in the Prince of Asturias Awards.
As noted in the Minutes of the Jury, the Spanish national basketball team has been conferred the Award because, "the important triumph at the World Championship in Japan, the most brilliant achievement in the history of Spanish basketball, has also served as an example of overcoming difficulties, team spirit, candour and commitment to sports ethics. This extraordinary generation of players, led by Pau Gasol and coached by José Vicente "Pepu" Hernandez, has conveyed to the world, and especially to the young, a renewed thrill in the fostering and nurturing of sports".
Signal for the media The Prince of Asturias Foundation will be providing recorded television images. BNC video outlets will be made available to all television media. Cameras will not be allowed inside the hall. Radio stations will have a distributor available providing the complete audio of these events.
Access for press photographers will be limited to one per media company, who will be able to work from a specially designated area and take pictures during the first five minutes
